I think it would be neat to have a section to discuss personal problems and ask for help.  A lot of forums have this kind of section, including webrats and genmay.  It would be a 'SERIOUS DISCUSSION ONLY' thread, no joking, no sarcasm, etc.

I know I could certainly use some help with how to console a brotherless girl right now. =/

Well, that rapidly becomes difficult.  Genmay is a forum, and so is this.  Being the opposite of genmay would mean removing the forum.  As a matter of fact, it would mean removing LPNW from the internet entirely.

...

Dude... this has nothing to do with me 'getting a girl' or 'having confidence', or 'moving on'.  Get your mind out of the f**k**g gutter and realise that I'm trying to help a friend, nothing more.

Honestly, I don't think we have enough people here with experience to offer support for any serious life problems.

Actually genmay's "Bone Closet" is what Suran's referring to.  And it's a great sub-forum, you can talk about anything there and get serious advice and help.  What's amazing is you rag on genmay so much, but the people there are much more understanding and caring than you are...it's almost like you belong there and they belong here  Roll Eyes

Why do you want to be so different from them?  Are you "better" than them?  Are you a better person than them, are you higher in society, are you too good for them?  Are you better than me?  Are you too good for me?  I respect genmay as a forum much more than LPNW.

...actually that's probably because most of the members there are mature adults with lives instead of 14yr old kids that can't spell or type a decent sentence.

Yes, LPNW needs a Bone Closet.  It's a place to put aside whether or not you like the person posting, and give them some compassion and advice when they need it.  It's a place to build the community and create stronger relationships with other members.  It's a place to sacrifice your own time to selflessly help someone else.  It's a place to genuinly care.

Honestly, you'd be highly amazed what some of us have gone through and know how to deal with.

I'm sure a lot of you have been through stuff. Even still, there's A LOT that goes into something like this. Love Line had a web site up for a bit about seven years ago where they had a forum for its users. (IIRC) one user gave advice to another, and the kid ended up committing suicide. The parents sued Love Line for their part in it. If you notice, Adam never does the show by himself. If he did and something happened, Love Line would lose hardcore in court. They have to have someone with some actual skills (even if the only difference are some pieces of paper) on there at all times.

Stuff like this is touchy. From what I've seen on this board, there are a lot of people who would like to give advice to others, and through no fault of their own they would be giving bad advice.

Can't LPNW just disclaim the section?

If we wanted to hire a lawyer to get a good disclaimer.
