Microsoft basically just patented UAC. big deal. You want UAC on linux? I don't really see how this can run afoul of linux or macos. They don't even call it sudo.
From the patent:
Systems and/or methods are described that enable a user to elevate his or her rights. In one embodiment, these systems and/or methods present a user interface identifying an account having a right to permit a task in response to the task being prohibited based on a user's current account not having that right. Later in the patent, the "user interface" is described as a graphical one, does not seem to mention command line usage. The patent even references sudo in linux, as a means of description, but it clearly is not a patent FOR sudo. Check out all the references on the patent!
So, if you want to have an expanded, context sensitive sudo gui, you gotta pay microsoft now. Really doesn't strike me as a big deal. People just probably saw the abstract of the patent(above), and freaked out without even reading it.
In short, don't worry about it.
